Using and Accepting the
"Fortuna Buck"
At this time of year the FBID office
usually receives a call or two from either a shopper or another merchant about gift
certificate acceptance. Generally, an employee didn't recognize the Gift Certificate
and refused to accept it. Rather than argue, the buyer goes elsewhere with their Fortuna
Buck and the first business loses a sale. Don't accidentally lose money!
There are thousands of dollars in "Fortuna Bucks" in circulation after the
holidays. Now is a
great time to re-acquaint yourself on how
to accept the certificates and to make sure your employees know what to look for and how
to accept the Fortuna currency.
The gift certificates spend just like cash inside the city limits of
Fortuna. Businesses can accept the
certificates as they would a $10 or $20 bill, give change back, and deposit for the full
face value wherever they bank.
Treat the certificates just as you would a traveler check, and thank the buyer for doing
business in Fortuna!
