New Committee Works on Five New Benefits

A new group is working to add more benefits to being a business in Fortuna. The "Member Benefits Committee" is a sub group of the FBID Board and is looking for interested business people to help work on their projects for 2003.
The group's goal is to have at least one or two group benefits in place before June 2003.
Some of the ideas they are preparing now:
-A "Fortuna Business

Card" credit card with perks for the user.
-Group rate discount with one or more web design or hosting firms.
-A side-by-side comparison of FBID with other cities economic development groups' costs and projects (updating a survey of two years ago)
-A group plan for credit card processing
-A group rate for high speed Internet service

-The Goods and Services Guide (already underway)

While some of these ideas may not pan out, at least one or two will be in place this year.  If you have another idea that you'd like to see worked on, would like to help the group as a committee member or would like to put in your vote for the benefit you like most, email fbid@sunnyfortuna.

SBA Help for Small Business Exporters

While certainly not news for everyone, a letter from Senator Barbara Boxer's office could be a big help to small manufacturer's considering doing business overseas.
The SBA is offering new programs to help small business exporters with

cash flow problems when dealing with overseas buyers.
Designed to help small business cope with the longer payment demands of foreign buyers, the SBA can offer up to a 90% government guaranty to your bank to help export sales

grow.
Programs also can cover up to 100 % of up-front costs for export orders, give support to stand-by letters of credit for performance bonds, and offer loans up to $250,000 for trade promotion expenses.

Take a look below for a voided version of a $20 certificate.  A negotiable certificate will have a stamped signature in the lower left corner and should have the recipient line filled out and the purchaser line and phone number filled out.  Actual certificates also have bank routing numbers just like a check.  If you ever have a question about a Fortuna Gift Certificate, call Hum

boldt Bank Fortuna 725-7474.  You may also call the FBID office for general questions.
There are still some "first series" gift certificates circulating with an expiration note in the upper right corner.  Please accept these certificates!  It is not legal in California to cancel gift certificates paid for in legal tender.  All subsequent printings of Fortuna Bucks don't have an expiration date or note.

Businesses should stamp or write in their business name on the "Redeemed at" line.  Filling in the "Redeemed at" line helps the FBID office track what types of business are seeing more certificates and where marketing efforts should be focused.
New, "We Accept" counter cards are available by calling 725-9261.   These cards, displayed prominently, can increase your number of  redeemed
