Fortuna Gift Certificates Go Out to E.R.S. Employees, Holiday Sales Break Records

Here they come again! Eel River Sawmills employees will be hitting the streets with almost 8-thousand dollars in Fortuna Citywide Gift Certificates the second week of February.   Eel River employees are receiving the certificates as part of a semi-annual safety bonus.
Employees and employee groups are given bonuses once or twice a year if they have not had a "lost time injury" in their division.
This latest purchase is the fourth that Eel River Sawmills has made since the beginning of the Fortuna Gift Certificate program.  The employees of ERS have had a total of $26,800 to spend since their first purchase in the summer of 1998.
Fortuna Gift Certificates spend (and deposit) just like cash inside the city limits of Fortuna.  Fortuna businesses can accept the certificates as they would a $10 or $20 bill, give change back, and deposit for the full face value wherever they bank.  Businesses should stamp or write in their business name on the "Redeemed at" line.  Filling in the "Redeemed at" line helps the FBID office track what types of business are seeing more certificates and where marketing efforts should be focused.
The purchase by ERS comes after a record holiday season for the Fortuna Gift Certificates (see accompanying story) that will mean a longer run for the certificates in the first quarter than usual.

Certificates Hit  Holiday Record
Individuals, companies and merchant groups helped push the Fortuna Gift Certificates sales to a new high for the holiday season in 1999.  The total certificate sales for November and December 1999 came to $4,200, an increase of $1,600 over the previous year's $2,600 total.
Fortuna Daffodil Show Marks 25th Year
School Kids Art Available for Window Displays Again
Fortuna's Daffodil Show will celebrate 25 years on March 25 & 26 at River Lodge Conference Center.  The show, sponsored by the Fortuna Garden Club,  will also be host to the Pacific Regional Daffodil Show,  which will likely bring  more presenters from other areas.
As a way to bring attention to the show and tie together the business community and the event, the FBID office will be offering children's art from Fortuna schools for display in store windows.
Fortuna classes are already signing up to provide daffodil and flower-themed art projects.  Businesses that would like to hang art in their business windows may call the FBID office to receive art.
Volunteers will pass out children's art starting March 17 and will pick up art after March 27.
To sign up call 725-9261.
