"Fortuna Center for Small Business"
Opens with Pacific Bell Grant

Partners Pacific Bell and FBID will officially unveil the "Fortuna Center for Small Business"  Wednesday May 12.
The addition to the FBID office comes thanks to a generous grant from Pacific Bell.  With funding from Pacific Bell, FBID was able to purchase a computer system, software and peripherals to do more publishing and Internet outreach.
The system will also be  available to any Fortuna business that wishes to do Internet research , build a web-presence Internet site or do promotional publishing.

"Computer time will be available about two days a week to start," says FBID coordinator David Reed, "the time available will be based on how much volunteer help we can have."
Reed says more time will be made available as interested businesses come forward and volunteers are available.
The "Center" offers both the FBID staff and business owners a high-speed system to do
web/desktop publishing with and access the Internet. If you are interested in using the "Fortuna Center" computer system for research or to get your business on the Internet, call the FBID office.

Planning Underway for '99-'00, Help Needed

Plans for FBID's activities  in '99-'00 are being developed now and Fortuna business owners are invited to come and share their ideas.
The FBID Board, staff and interested business owners will discuss  how to use the FBID budget and what events, programs and new ideas should be put on the

group's '99-'00 Workplan.  Planning will go on at both  board meetings in May.
Ideas  that came out of  planning meetings last year include: Doing market research with help from C.R. students and  developing a new event  for spring 2000.
The FBID budget and  Workplan along with a list of

accomplishments for the '98-'99 fiscal year must be sent to the City Council for review by June 1.
Board meetings are held the first and third Wednesday of each month at 8:00 a.m. in the City Council chambers.  If you'd like to bring ideas to the table but cannot attend you can fax or mail written notes to the FBID office or speak to Dave Reed at the office at 725-9261.
