Fortuna Business Improvement District Seeks Executive Director

The Fortuna Business Improvement District or “FBID” is a non-profit organization funded primarily through an assessment on local businesses, an allotment from the City of Fortuna, and grant funds. FBID works together with Fortuna's diverse business community and in contract with the City to effect positive economic change.  


FBID is seeking an Executive Director to manage the FBID office in Fortuna and to provide administrative support and executive assistance to the Board of Directors. The Executive Director will play a critical role in the organization’s ongoing success. 


Duties are as follows: 

  • Assist the Board of Directors in implementing a novel economic development program in the City of Fortuna, including business recruitment and support.

  • Be versed on the City Municipal Code, FBID Bylaws and financial resources available through private and public sources.

  • Be thoroughly knowledgeable of FBID policies and procedures. 

  • Produce a monthly newsletter, facilitate Board meetings, and serve as a delegate to the local business community and to City leadership.

  • Be accountable for all current information regarding any project undertaken by the organization (banners, street festivals, fundraisers, etc.).

  • Inform the Board of upcoming deadlines or requirements they must meet (taxes, reports, audits, elections, etc.).

  • Initiate ideas and projects which are necessary to the mission of FBID.

  • Initiate public relations through the media via press releases and social media campaigns.

  • Be responsible for the organization and implementation of existing FBID programs; administer the FBID office. 

  • Be directly responsible to the President of the FBID Board of Directors.

  • Interface with FBID Core Area leadership to ensure the needs of stakeholders are adequately met and to obtain required documents.

  • Be a positive and energetic source for the long-term revitalization of business districts and the community at large.


Ideal candidates will: 

  • Ensure what happens on the ground reflects the plans of the Board.

  • Ensure FBID has resources it needs to reach its short- and longer-term goals.

  • Build and cultivate strategic relationships with the community.

  • Have experience with contracts, grants management, and grant writing.

  • Be knowledgeable with regards to managing budgets and developing budgets.

  • Have experience facilitating small and large group meetings, both remotely and in person.

  • Have experience in economic development and/or marketing.

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field, such as Business, Marketing, or Public Relations. 


Applicants must have customer service experience, admin, bookkeeping or accounting experience, and experience working in a professional office environment. 


This is a 24-32 hour a week position with a flexible schedule and the possibility of some remote work. Salary is $22-$26 per hour, DOE.
